Winter Fun in Southern Vermont
Winter is officially here and Southern Vermont is chock full of fun ways to enjoy the outdoors. While some people choose to moan & groan when the temps drop, we fully embrace winter here in the Valley and cherish each and every snowflake that Ma Nature graces us with. Whether you are a lifelong skier or someone who wants to try something new to do in winter, we have something for you. Here’s a list of some of our favorite winter activities here in Southern Vermont.
Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding
Mount Snow Resort
Mount Snow’s four mountain faces provide skiing & snowboarding fun for those of all ability levels. Mount Snow offers a wide variety of terrain including a two-mile-long novice trail from the summit, 100-yard-wide intermediate trails and the expert North Face that includes Ripcord, Mount Snow’s steepest trail and one of the steepest in New England. 80 trails totaling 37 miles are spread out over 588 acres, serviced by 20 lifts including the new for 2022/23 Sundance Express and Sunbrook Express! Carinthia Parks includes 8 terrain parks of various sizes on 100 acres of terrain.
Never skied or snowboarded before? Mount Snow’s world class instructors will help all participants have fun exploring the mountain by teaching new techniques at their own pace.
Hermitage Club
The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain is the only private, members-owned ski club in the Northeast.
Haystack Mountain’s ski slopes offer a wide variety of terrain with the comfort and familiarity of a neighborhood park. Haystack main mountain offers something for everyone, from long winding greens and blues, to steep blacks. It also has a number of glades to fill your need for tree skiing. The main mountain is serviced by a 6-person high speed lift with protective bubbles and heated seats. This offers a welcome respite from the weather, while also getting you up the mountain quickly.
Cross Country Skiing
Prospect Mountain Ski Area
Cross country skiing for all ages and skill levels in rural Vermont. Prospect Mountain maintains more than 30 kilometers of trails. When the snow falls, the trails are expertly groomed for both skating and classical cross-country skiing. Most trails have tracks set on either side with a wide skating lane in the center. There are also special snowshoeing and single-track trails. We have trails from beginner to expert. The Mountain Trail is popular with experts looking to climb more than 400 feet to the top of the mountain. After enjoying the view into the valley below, get ready for several kilometers of downhill fun!
Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is an excellent way to get out and enjoy the snow, and Southern Vermont is well known for its expansive & well maintained snowmobile trail system. With easy parking, availability to gas & food, and amazing scenery its no coincidence that many snowmobilers flock to Southern Vermont every winter.
