► February 13th: (Mount Snow, VT): Timber Creek Cross Country Ski Area has managed to stay open and provide some very decent skiing despite this being one of the more challenging years for the ski industry due to warmer temperatures and lack of snow. Owner Kelly Kahler attributes this mostly to careful trail planning and creative grooming techniques such as “snow farming” (collecting snow from the woods and depositing it on the trails). According to shop management, people have been coming from as far as Connecticut and Boston to get in a day of skiing at Timber Creek. This past weekend, the Phillips Andover Nordic Ski Team used the trails for practice and were quite happy. While the ski area is not quite 100% open, they are offering 10k of groomed ski trails and about 18k of snowshoe trails—enough to satisfy both the beginner and the avid skier alike. For updated trail conditions call 802-464-0999 or visit the website http://www.timbercreekxc.com.
