The artist, Raymond Martin, graduated from Paier School of Art and Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT. His studies allowed him to attend a term at the International School of Art in Rome, Italy where he gained an appreciation for all types of art from the Renaissance period. Ray went onto complete courses at the Kent Film Institute, Kent, Ct. and the Nikon School of Photography, Hartford, Ct., which launched him into an enterprising and diverse career as a photographer.
Ray’s wife discovered a newspaper ad recruiting photographers to attend a pilot program in Alaska to form a workshop for interested students. One trip to the back country, and he was smitten by Alaska, especially the wildlife. Ray ultimately ran several workshops there in the years to come. His photographs of Alaskan wildlife, particularly birds of prey, became the subjects of his artwork. Ray is also an accomplished musician, singer, and most recently, wood-turner. A master wood-turner friend renewed his interest in the art form and it has become his latest passion. He has created several fine wood pieces utilizing different wood pieces combinations. Ray’s most popular piece has been his innovative “wine table for two,” in which the glasses sit in, not on, the table with room for a bottle or snacks. The Table also lends itself to Martini and beer glasses. The opening reception is July 5, 2008, noon to 1:30 P.M. |
